Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $300**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A heavy gilded copper ring set with an oval glass intaglio - a nice example demonstrating how delicate the gilding process was! Heavy gold rings like these were most likely worn by men and the subject of the intaglio would have had personal significance to the wearer. The iconography of the intaglio surface is hard to see, but looks to us like an abstract fish… Size: 0.95" L x 0.8" W x 0.4" H (2.4 cm x 2 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private East Coast, USA Collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

#118951
Condition
Some of the gilt remains, as shown, with attractive bronze patina present as well. The shank of the ring is a bit misshapen making it difficult to wear on a finger; however, it would make a lovely pendant if suspended from a chain. Wear to intaglio surface as shown.
