Description
Lacquered wood. Japan, Edo period

Of circular form with a domed head and slightly upward rim in the front. Lacquered in gold hiramaki-e on a roironuri background is a mon in the front, with a multitude of stripes joining in the center, emanating a sunrise. The slightly faded gold lacquer creates a beautiful effect. The inside lacquered in gold with shades of black coming through, with another black lacquered mon.

Condition: Good, complete condition - slight wear and fading to the lacquer
