Description
A MEISSEN PAINTED PORCELAIN FIGURAL GROUP OF INFANTS CUPID AND PSYCHE, UNDERGLAZE BLUE MARK, IMPRESSED AND INCISED NUMBERS, CIRCA 1880, modeled as the infant Cupid wearing a ribbon tied quiver of arrows and tricorn hat, as he sharpens an arrow head on a foot pedaled grinding wheel, beneath a leafy tree, while opposite, the scantily robed infant Psyche teases him with a broken arrow precariously leaning on his basket of tools, on stylized rockwork with gilt base rim, underglaze blue crossed swords mark, incised script "E26," and impressed "147." Height: 7 5/8" Width: 4 1/2" Depth: 4 1/4"
Condition
With losses to end of scissors and sword in the basket, and loss to end of object held in his companion's right hand along with two finger tips, some leaves in the tree with loss.
