Description
A pair of Late Jomon stone axes (Masei Sekifu), Japan, c. 1500 - 1000 BC, each in a black serpentine. The polished axe (masei sekifu) or celt is the most common type of stone implement used during the Neolithic age in East Asia. Both about 5 in (12.7 cm) in length. Each with restoration to one end. Ex Chicago, Illinois private antiquities collection; Ex San Francisco private collection, acquired prior to 1970.
