Description
A Russian gilded silver, shaded cloisonne and pictorial enamel pill or pastille box, Nikolai Alekseev, Moscow, 1899-1908. The box of cushion form, the lid enameled with a scene of a fluffy cat among the flowers in a garden contemplating a butterfly about to alight on a branch, the scene within a white beaded border, the body enameled with stylized red daises and purple pansies on turquoise or cream grounds, within gilded cable borders, the lid opening with a gilded silver thumb piece. Struck with maker's marks and 88 silver fineness standard. Gross weight: 63 grams. Diameter: 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm).
