Magna Graecia, South Italy Campania, ca. 4th century BCE. A sweet blackware pottery vessel of a bulbous form with a ring handle attached to the shoulder, a cylindrical neck, flared rim with downturned stepped lip. The piece was intended to be blackware; however it was misfired resulting in some reddish hues - in actuality a happy accident, as the black and red hues complement one another quite nicely. Size: 3.5" W x 4.25" H (8.9 cm x 10.8 cm)
Provenance: private Orange County, California collection, acquired before 2000

Condition
Pressure fissures on one side. Nicks to rim and base. Minor surface wear with pigment losses as shown. Black surfaces have developed attractive iridescence.
