Magna Graecia, Greek colonies of South Italy, probably Campania, ca. 4th century BCE. An uncomplicated yet attractive terracotta black slipware dish with a short circular foot base, a wide and shallow dish cavity, and a lipped rim. The dark black surface is still incredibly reflective, even after 2,400 years. Simple yet elegant! Size: 6.875" W x 1.25" H (17.5 cm x 3.2 cm).
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection acquired before 2000

Condition
Surface wear commensurate with age and use, minor loss to foot, minor pitting inside dish cavity and extensive pitting underneath. A circular mark can be seen inside the dish cavity, highlighted by the semi-circular scratch mark. Mineral deposits and minor losses to black slip material throughout.
