Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Period to Ptolemaic, ca. 712 to 30 BCE. A wooden decorative panel, perhaps from a temple or elite private residence, in the form of an arch-shape with its surface painted white. Inlaid faience circles, rectangles, and leaf-shapes form a wide border around the edges and across the center. The faience ranges from a pale green to a deep, water-like blue. Blue faience was meant to reflect the color of the river Nile both on earth and in the afterlife, and was a sacred material for that reason. Size: 2" L x 8" W x 9" H (5.1 cm x 20.3 cm x 22.9 cm)
