Description
Egyptian Wooden Painted Falcon, Ptolemaic Period, 305-30 BCE. In an exceptional state of preservation. A fine representation of the Horus falcon, the god of the Sky and protector of the ruling pharaoh. Carved wood and pigment. On custom base. Provenance: Ex. Estate Collection Isadore and Nancy Marder, Philadelphia;purchased in 1972 from antiquities expert Andre Le Veel, 19 quai Malaquais, Paris, France. Size: 8.75'' x 3'' x 5'' (22 x 8 x 13 cm). Height on base: 10.75" (27 cm).
