Description
18th-19th century AD. A gilt bronze figure of Mahasiddha Virupa seated on a lotus throne with draped deer skin; head turned to the left, elongated ears with rosette earring, bands of curly hair to the head; rows of necklaces to the chest, armlets, bracelets and anklets; left hand held up with index and little fingers extended in the 'stopping the sun' gesture, right hand holding a skull cup; left knee drawn up; base sealed with double vajra to the centre. 1.32 kg, 15cm (6"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired before 1995.
