Description
12th-14th century AD. A bronze expanding-arm cross appliqué with low-relief border, facing nimbate robed figure with guilloche detailing to the skirt, legend 'MIP?C / W' partly reversed. 45 grams, 11.5cm (4 1/2"). Property of a British gentleman; formerly in the private collection of Russian businessman Yuri Golubev (1942-2007), some of his collection was published in his book 'Symbols and Images'; previously with Iconastas Russian Fine Art and Antiques, London SW1; formerly in the collections of Constable-Maxwell and Lord McAlpine in the 1980s-1990s; accompanied by a copy of the invoice for a part of the collection acquired from Iconastas dated 26 September 2005. [No Reserve]
