Description
6th-7th century AD or later. A square bronze tabular weight with reserved image of nimbate St. George on rearing horse spearing a supine dragon, serpents and ropework border. 208 grams, 59mm (2 1/4"). Property of a British gentleman; formerly in the private collection of Russian businessman Yuri Golubev (1942-2007), some of his collection was published in his book 'Symbols and Images'; acquired Bonhams, London, 27 April 2006, lot 263; formerly in a European private collection, acquired in the 1950s-1960s; accompanied by a copy of the auction catalogue pages. [No Reserve]
