Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) Publisher, author. Hubbard is known best as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community, an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Among his many publications were the fourteen-volume work Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great and the short publication A Message to Garcia. He and his wife, Alice, died aboard the RMS Lusitania when it was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland on May 7, 1915. 5 ¼” x 7 ½” autograph note signed, The Royerofters notepaper, September 6, 1911. “…Here is something special. It will not last long and I thought you might like to come in before St. Peter closes the gate…make us a visit some fine Day….”
