Description
William Williams (1731-1811) Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut. Williams was elected to the Continental Congress in 1776 and signed the Declaration, and was then appointed a member of the committee to frame the Articles of Confederation. In 1777 he was appointed to the Board of War. He served as a delegate to the Congress of the Confederation in 1783 and 1784. In January 1788, he voted to accept the Constitution, and on January 9, 1788, Connecticut became the fifth state to approve the Constitution. 7 ¼” x 4 ¾” autograph document signed, Union, November 5, 1761. The document is a promissory note and has been countersigned by Joshua Webb (1722-1808). The note is double matted with a print, descriptive plaque, postal cover with a Williams cachet, silver Williams coin and handsomely framed to 33 ¾” x 17 ¾”. There is paper-loss in the right margin, away from the signatures.
