Description
Attributed to Callot Soeurs. Black net with lace inserts over pale blue chiffon and satin, having high waist and deep V-neck, full, short puffed sleeves of heavy ivory lace, the bodice and upper portion of skirt beaded in a floral garland motif in frosty white beads, the trained skirt is hemmed with a black lace band flanked by ruched lace above and black satin below, blue satin underskirt weighted at the hem below a pleated ruffle, unlabeled. Together with a pair of black satin evening shoes with beaded rosette to the vamp and beaded guides for silk laces, label "Lagel-Meier Paris". Dress was loaned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a special exhibition, "American Women of Style", December, 1975-August 1976. Exhibited at the Melbourne Art Festival, "L'Epoque d'Elegance", 1991.B-36, W-24, L 55-72, shoes L-10 3/4 with 2-inch heel. Excellent.
