Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Indonesia, Borneo, Ngaju, Central Kalimantan Dayak, ca. early 20th century CE. A standing female, hand-carved wood shamanic charm figure holding a baby in both hands. This piece is very rare because it depicts a female, and females are traditionally not often depicted! Comes with custom stand. Size: 0.5" W x 3.5" H (1.3 cm x 8.9 cm)
Prior to the arrival of missionaries in the dense rainforest of Borneo - and for those not convinced by their message - the Dayak had shamans who were powerful and esteemed personages within a village, who needed to be consulted for every major village decision and who functioned as healers and advice-givers for individuals within the village.
