Central Asia, Sino-Tibetan, ca. 19th century CE. A cast bronze goddess figure seated in a meditative posture with one leg forward and with lotus blossoms on either side. This figure is probably the bodhisattva Tara, a hugely popular Vajrayana deity who accompanied the rise of Tantra in 8th century India, a combination of "Mother of all Buddhas" and the Indian concept of a mother goddess. Size: 2.9" W x 4" H (7.4 cm x 10.2 cm)
