A Brass Shrine Depicting Durga Slaying the Buffalo Demon, (Mahisasuramardini), Western India, circa 15th/16th century, the four armed goddess wielding trident, sword and shield, the demon emerging from the decapitated buffalo, while her lion attacks it from the rear, flanked by a pair of columns, an arch above surmounted by a kalasa, 15cm (5 1/2in) high.Provenance: Collection of the Late Andrew Solomon, London, inv. no. A92. Purchased from Toby Jack, 29 March 1975
