Description
English, 16th century. A rectangular carved oak relief panel depicting St. George slaying the dragon, the carving presented in high relief with some elements carved in the round, with the fallen dragon at bottom below St. George on a rearing horse with sword in hand, at top left the kneeling princess and a furry beast set below the oversized sun beside a miniature castle wall over which peer two figures. Approximately 16.625" x 10.125" x 0.75". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from Joanna Booth Antiques, London, England, in a private sale on September 6, 1985.
