Description
A handsome outline hand colored map of all Hispanic North America in the period between Mexican Independence from Spain (1821) and the Texan Revolution, Mexican war and U. S. annexation of its entire southwest. A prominent trail goes from Nachitoches in U. S. Louisiana to Nacogdoches, Guardia de Barca (on the Trinity R.), Guarda.de Caballo (on the St. Marco), El Bezon, St. Antonio, Cibola, Dolores and Loredo in Texas thence to Monerey, Saltillo, Zacatecas, Guanaxuato, Queretaro to Mexico City and Acapulco. Most of the placenames in northern New Mexico are already there: Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos and the Pueblos. Southern Arizona has trail starting at S. Xavier (below Tubso) to Tubac,and further into Sonora. Numeous saints names for places in the upper Colorado river basin of Utah and western Colorado. Also two major lakes: Timpanogos and Teguayo(â€Salt Waterâ€). Northern part of Upper California is New Albion (after Drake), while most planenames are along the extensive coastline from C. St. Sebastian south to Port Sr. Fr. Drake, Port S. Francisco, Monterey, S. Barbara, S. Gabriel , S. Diego with dozens of other names scattered along the way. Native American tribes (excluding Pueblos) named include: Yuntas, Apaches (appear in several areas) Tetaus or Padoucas (below Arkansas River in south Colorado), Comanches, Kaskaias, Nijoras, Nabajoas (Navajos), Moquis (Hopis), Cosninas, Yamayas, Yabipias, Apacheries, Tejuas, Pimas Gilenas, Iumas, Cajuenches & Cupacas, Chemeguabas, Jumbuicrariris, Timpabaches, Iutas Tabeguaches, Nanahas, Raguapuis, and the only tribe mentioned in California (near S. Diego) Jenigueihs. Papagos and Seris are a bit below the coming U.S. border at Cerro de Santa Clara. Baja or “Old California†has numerous placenames and three tribes: Colimies, Monquis, Perieus. A splendid snapshot of Southwestern history and geography before wars and annexation."Corrected from original information communicated by Simon A. G. Bourne, Esq." Mining indicated by a cross. Map covers most of U. S. and countries south from 42 degrees North latitude to Panama. Spanish west includes Upper or New California, New Mexico, panhandle of Texas is “DESERTâ€, Texas is overlapped bu Coahuila and Potosi. Sonora barely includes Tubso (Tucson) and S. Xavier del Bac.
