Description
A beautiful and large Roman colorless glass vessel with 'snake thread' decoration, Eastern Mediterranean, 3rd - 4th Century AD, the bell-shaped body with beautifully molded zig-zag decoration in relief and a ring foot, the tall neck with horizontal trailing at midsection and mouth with rounded inward folded rim. H: 6 in (15.2cm). A very attractive example with light deposits. For a discussion and example see Matheson, Yale, no. 184. Ex collection of Dr. Carl Kempe; Ex Bonham's April 2004, Lot 151.
