Description
A pair of nice Roman terra sigillata fragments, North Africa, 4th - 5th Century AD, the first is a plate fragment and depicts a pair of Erotes in a boat, one paddling and the other relaxing. L: 2 7/8 (7.3 cm). See: J. Herrmann; A. van den Hoek, Light from the Age of Augustine, pp. 70-1, nos. 65-6 for a similar example. The second is a plate fragment depicting a lunging spearman, probably a venator, from a depiction of an execution in the circus (damnatio as bestias). L: 3 1/8 in (7.9 cm).
