Description
Ancient South Arabia, Saudi Arabia or Yemen, ca. first millennium BCE. A beautifully carved piece of marble depicting the head of a ram, best viewed in profile to see his curled horns, large eyes, and fleece-like textured head. The ram was a common symbol of virility in ancient cultures, and the presence of sheep - whose wool was traded to south Arabia by the Persians during this time - is a reminder of the interconnected world of the first millennium BCE. Size: 2.8" W x 2.5" H (7.1 cm x 6.4 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.
