South Arabian/Sabaean Marble Head, c. 3rd-1st Century B.C.
Alabaster funerary/memorial head depicting a stylized face in high relief. Flat forehead, bulging eyes, the extended deeply carved eyebrows merging in the centre of the face into a long nose leading to a closed mouth.
The Sabaeans were a civilisation of people of South Arabia in pre-Islamic times, originally entering from the north.
