Troy (NY): for the author, by Luther Pratt, 1797. 6.25" x 3.75". 180 pp., lacking frontis. Period sheep, rear hinge with chip, all intact. Contents with foxing and toning, instances of soiling and closed tears, rear blank and pastedown with early ink notes, Good. ************************ Second edition, published for the benefit of the author who had become blind. Lacking the plate called for by Evans, but apparently not bound into this copy and not mentioned in Sabin for this edition. This is the first Troy printing, following the Philadelphia first of the same year. Hawkins’ account is the first of its type written by an American. He discusses the slave trade at length.
