Description
New World, Native American, East Coast, probably Maine (Penobscot), ca. late 1920s to 1930s. A curved, hand-carved stick capped by a dramatic face carved in high relief from one side. Three horn-like protrusions rise from behind the head. The natural bumpy texture of the wood has been left around the face, while the rest of the stick has been sanded to a rich, smooth luster, with repeated, deeply incised, leaf-like motifs down its length. Size: 3.45" W x 22.45" H (8.8 cm x 57 cm)
