Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Egypt, Late Period, Dynasties 26 through 31, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A near-miniature faience-crafted depiction, in hues of brown and pistachio, of a young Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky and warfare. The boy Horus is shown wearing a hemhem crown (better known as a triple Atef crown), a typical side-lock of youth, a shin-length skirt, all while seated upon a throne attached to an integrated horizontal plinth with his right arm raised to his mouth and the left resting at his side. The child of Isis and Osiris, Harpocrates (the Hellenised term for Horus) was revered for his power over threatening animals and, despite his youthful appearance, was seen as a protective deity. Created to be worn regularly as an amulet rather than in dedication. Size: 0.625" L x 0.375" W x 1.8" H (1.6 cm x 1 cm x 4.6 cm).
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
