Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
Egypt, Third Intermediate Period to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A pair of gorgeous, mold-made, very pale green faience amulets, one in the form of Horus and the other Khnum. Both have wonderful details that remain clear, like the intricately incised pattern of Horus's wings or the pleated details of Khnum's skirt. Both have a drilled hole for suspension that is still intact. Horus was one of the most significant and powerful of the Egyptian deities, often depicted as a falcon as he is here. He played a key role in the rites of resurrection relating to the story of his parents, Isis and Osiris, and was central to the mythology surrounding Egyptian burial rites. Khnum, meanwhile, was one of the oldest Egyptian deities, believed to be the source of the Nile River and thus the creator who molded human bodies and other deities from the rich silt and clay along the river's banks. Still wearable! Size of Khnum: 0.6" W x 2.45" H (1.5 cm x 6.2 cm); size of Horus: 1.7" W x 1.6" H (4.3 cm x 4.1 cm)

Condition
Horus has been repaired on the foot, but the repair is well done and hard to see. The top of the head, the legs, and the base have small chips. Khnum has some stable cracks around the base, and someone in the past drilled into it and inserted a metal rod for a stand, which remains (and is probably the cause of the cracks). Suspension cord shown in photograph not included.
