Egypt, Third Intermediate Period to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A charming faience amulet of the god Thoth in his baboon form. Thoth was the god of writing, accounting, and other intellectual pursuits, associated with the ibis and the baboon. Also a faience amulet of the goddess Isis, whose was seen as the ideal mother and wife and the patroness of marriage, wisdom, and health, portrayed here as a royal woman. Both are drilled for suspension and could be worn today. Size of Isis (both are roughly the same size): 0.35" W x 1.3" H (0.9 cm x 3.3 cm)
