Segundo Huertas-Aguiar was born in San Juan, Argentina in 1923. Since 1965, when he first visited the United States, he has toured this country, frequently as the honored guest at the opening of exhibitions of his paintings; at other time, simply to fulfill his love of natural scenic beauty.
His work has been exhibited in museums here and in Uruguay and Brazil. He is a noted muralist in South America and has executed commissions for buildings in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Sao Paulo and Mar-Del-Plata.
Now a resident of the U.S., Huertas turns to his travels through the Midwest and the Rockies as sources for his representational landscapes. The forests, mountains, animals and people of his paintings bear the impressionistic influences of Jean Renior's work which Huertas-Aguiar greatly admires.
Huertas-Aguiar's reputation for painting has grown tremendously in recent years. During the last eight years, he has been featured in on-person and group shows in 26 galleries in 17 states. Annual exhibitions of his work are held in Mar-Del-Plata, Argentina.
Jan Jennings, art writer for the San Diego Tribune recently reviewed a Huertas-Aguiar show: "The paintings are landscape and seascape tributes to the beauty in nature. He paints dramatic, poetic settings inspired by the outdoors. The mood ranges from a peaceful solitude in a mountain paradise to a blazing fury of a heated desert horizon. . ."
Huertas-Aguiar spent several weeks in New York in 1977 in order to create his first two lithographs at The American Atelier. He finds the lithographic process provides him with new ways to give voice to his artistic expression, although paint on canvas remains his primary mode of rendering the beauty of nature.; 16 x 12 unstretched oil painting
