Description
**Originally Listed At $125**
Pre-Columbian, Colima, West Mexico, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. An attractive pottery figure depicting a standing male. Hands crossed over chest, wearing a large headdress, ear ornaments, and "apron" with long tassels hanging over hips and over buttocks - facial features including coffee bean shaped eyes, protruding nose, and lips make for an expressive figure. An excellent example from the West Mexican shaft tomb tradition. Ceramic figurines such as this are among the most expressive and dramatic created in Mesoamerica. According to scholars of this tradition, such ceramic figures were the primary outlet for artistic expression for shaft tomb cultures, and there is little record of monumental architecture, stelae, or public art associated with these cultures.
