Description
"Dance of the Stump people", Robert Morse,c.1950. Painting: 19.25"x 15.25" in a frame: 15.5"x 21.5".No signs of restoration or damage.Unknown artist. We do not believe this is by the Broadway actor, famous for the lead in "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying" but we have not made any attempt to contact that Robert Morse to see if he painted. The back of the painting has a label that refers to the area Southwest Harbor Maine leading us to believe the work is by an obscure artist, perhaps better known in that part of the world.A terrific funny painting, with a great visual of tree stumps coming to life, in a Fantasia quality, in the swamps. The hats the stumps are wearing, the frame, label and style all suggest a date of around 1940 to 1955.
