[16], 847, [24] pp. Elaborate engraved pictorial title page. Text in 2 columns, in Latin, with some side notes in Hebrew. (4to) 19.5x15.5 cm (7¾x6"), period full pigskin elaborately tooled in blind, with nativity scene in large central compartment on front cover, the baptism of Christ depicted on rear cover; with catches and remains of leather clasp straps.
An explanation of the Psalms by the Italian Jesuit and Cardinal in the Catholic Church Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621), one of the most important figures in the Counter-Reformation. He was canonized a saint in 1930.
Condition
Normal light wear to covers but quite sound and attractive; old ink ownership signatures to title page; brown marginal staining to latter third of contents intruding into text towards the end; very good overall.
