Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A stylized mace head, carved from a rough yellow stone with dark inclusions, with an overall rounded form and features depicting a turkey vulture (or zopilotes), an avian species native to Costa Rica. It also has a biconically-drilled hole to accept a wooden shaft. Size: 2.75" L (7 cm).
