Handwritten letter from Hon. Trusten Polk, US Senate from Missouri recommending appointment of R.D. Morrison of Missouri to a judgeship in Arizona. This letter was referred to the Attorney General J. Buchannan, on 5 March 1859. Trusten Polk was a lawyer of St. Louis, Mo.; governor of Missouri, 1857; United States senator from Missouri, 1857-1862; colonel, Confederate States of America; and a military judge, 1864-1865. Polk resigned as governor after being elected to the Senate, and he was expelled from the Senate in 1862 for his support of the Confederacy. 9-5/8" x 7-7/8"
