Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, ca. 712 to 332 BCE. A powerful bronze figural amulet of the mummiform god of the underworld, Osiris. This would have been left with the body of a recently-deceased individual in order to aid him/her in safely navigating the perilous period between this world and that of the supernatural. Osiris himself is seen with an elongated beard and holding the typical crook and flail, and wears a tight shroud and Atef crown with two lateral plumes flanking a uraeas. The embodiment of strength and protection in the ancient Egyptian afterlife! Size: 0.375" W x 2.2" H (1 cm x 5.6 cm).
