Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic periods, ca. 662 to 30 BCE. This is a large cast bronze votive amulet of Osiris, standing, holding his implements, the crook and flail, at his shoulders. Osiris, the god of the underworld, was one of the most powerful of the Egyptian deities, with many feast days and festivals in his honor. His headdress, depicted here, is the Atef crown, a central miter mounted upon two ram's horns, with a sun disk (symbol of royalty) and flanked by two ostrich feathers. Size: 1.4" W x 3.5" H (3.6 cm x 8.9 cm)
