The Kabuki actor Nakamura Utaemon IV 四代目中村歌右衛門 as Inue Shinbee Chichi Yamabayashi Fusahachi 犬江親兵衛父 山林房八. Original colour woodblock print from the series "Hakkenden inu no sôshi no uchi" 八犬傳犬之艸紙廼内 - "Stories about the Dogs of Hakkenden" Signature: Kunisada ga in Toshidama frame. Publisher: Tsutaya Kichizô. Seal of censor: Nanushi-Seal Fuku and Muramatsu & Seal of Date. Engraver: hori Take. Edition: 1852, 10th month. Good condition. About the artist: Utagawa Kunisada II, identic with Kinisada III and Toyokuni IV was a student of Kunisada I. In 1844 or possibly two years later - after he got married with the daughter of Kunisada, he took over the name of his father in law. From that time on he would use the signature "Kunisada II" including the gô Kôchôrô and Ichijûsai. After the decease of Kunisada he also would use the signature Toyokuni. Although there was a large similarity of their painting styles, unlike his father in law, his compositions lacked of imagination and power.
