Description
Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Vicus, ca. 300 to 500 CE. Globular bodied vessel with a spout opposite a seated pan pipe player figure; both joined by a bridge handle. Traces of umber resist design decoration. Whistle functions quite well and produces a nice sweet sound! Size: 9.75" L x 7" H (24.8 cm x 17.8 cm)
Provenance: ex-Dr. George Wald, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; acquired in the 1960's; Dr. Wald was the recipient of the 1967 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on the retina.
