Description
Folk art carnival figure of a Leopard, carved wood, from Nelson Rockefeller Folk Art Collection, Thailand, 1920's, 67" long, paint decorated, original paint, nice patina, repair to tail. These two carvings as well as the 12 iron elephant panels in the sale were acquired from Dr. Alvin Friedman-Kien, a local Garrison NY resident. He related the story of his personal relationship with Rockefeller and that he had purchased them from him quite some time ago. His own major folk art collection was sold several years ago in NYC as well as donations made to the AFAM. He recently sold his home here and sold and commissioned many items of personal property through us in this and in a previous sale.
