Contains an interesting depiction of the burgeoning transportation network, with canals, roads, and railroads particularly noted. An early look at Summit County in the northeast, which had been formed in 1840. At top is a table of steam boat routes in the state, while at the bottom is a profile of the Ohio Canal, running from Portsmouth to Cleveland. A wonderful slice of Ohio history at a time the state was really beginning to flourish from America’s movement westward. Few small and light foxing spots, but generally a good impression with vivid original hand-coloring by counties. Published 1848 by S. Augustus Mitchell. 11.5 x 14.25 inches.

Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1790-1860) was an American geographer born in Connecticut. He worked as an educator before turning to publishing geography textbooks and maps.
