Description
A beautiful Roman bronze patera handle, c. 1st - 3rd Century AD, the terminal in the form of a Gorgon's head, her features handsome and with hair terminating in snake heads at each side of her face. The handle itself is in the form of a fluted column with incised floral decoration along the bottom edge, the curved flange which was attached to the pan with a marvelous lion's, with beautifully incised detail. 5 7/8 x 3 in (14.9 x 7.6 cm). Well preserved with a nice brown patina with areas of deep green deposits. With nice lucite stand. Ex Bronfman collection, Canada, acquired between the 1960's-80's in London.
