Dogon, Mali

Provenienz:

Die Dogon stellten maennliche oder weibliche Figuren auf unterschiedliche Altaere, von denen die meisten den Ahnen - wirklichen und mythischen - geweiht waren.
Die Figuren galten als ein Bindeglied zwischen der sichtbaren und der unsichtbaren Welt, mittels deren der Besitzer Kontakt zu den Geistwesen aufnehmen konnte.
Ob dieses Fragment urspruenglich einer freistehenden Figur zugehoerte oder einem Teil einer komplexeren Arbeit, ist nicht eindeutig zu eruieren - wie auch immer besticht das Rudiment aber durch die fuer die Dogon typische formale Strenge.
