Description
**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 15th century CE. A very old example of an iron pinchet knife. The handle is in the form of a standing anthropomorphic figure whose head is bent forward. The cast form has a great deal of detail on both front and back, giving the figure clothing, jewelry, and a haunting guise. The iron blade is wide with a uniform profile that tapers gently to a point; the body of the blade displays equidistant indentations along both sides. A dark wooden sheath houses the blade and is comprised of a thin blade holster and a curved guard protector. Size with sheath: 12.875" L (32.7 cm); length of blade: 8.875" L (22.5 cm).

Condition
Wear from age and handling on the handle. Lovely dark surface patina and nicely preserved details, especially to the front of the handle. Sheath is separated with minor losses on either side along the top half, and guard protector has minor losses and has been reattached to lower portion with adhesive.
