Description
**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. I really love this piece! A charming faience stamp seal depicting a jackal-like canine standing in the center, an ankh in one lower corner, and a shape in the sky that might be a moon or a star. The jackal may be a reference to the god Anubis, who waited at the gateway to the netherworld to judge the dead. The ankh was a symbol meant to insure the well-being of the deceased in the afterlife. This seal may have belonged to a priest or high ranking official. On the back of the square seal is a raised handle, pierced for suspension. Size: 0.55" W x 0.5" H (1.4 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection
