Description
Chinese Qing Dynasty Sino-Tibetan Buddha Arhat/Sthavira (Buddhist Elder) figure of Hvashang (Tibetan: chen tren drup thob hva chang, English: the Greatly Accomplished Supplicant, Hvashang), the Chinese Patron to the 16 Great Arhats. From private collections of Mrs. E. B. Greppo, of Los Angeles, CA., by inheritance. Acquired from H. Taylor Curtis Co. Salesroom on 915 W. Seventh St., Los Angeles. Behalf S. KAJIWARA of 939 W. 7th St. Los Angeles, CA; during Oriental Works of Art rare and valuable Antiquities sales commencing on February 1924. Older in appearance, healthy and rotund, with a receding hairline, a moustache and small goatee. The right hand upraised holds to the heart a mala, string of prayer beads. The left laid on the lap held offers a persimmon fruit. Adorned with earrings and wrapped with an upper cloak of brocade, seated in a relaxed posture atop demountable and fitted hardwood stand in double lotus throne motif.

From private collections of Mrs. E. B. Greppo, of Los Angeles, CA., by inheritance. Acquired from H. Taylor Curtis Co. Salesroom on 915 W. Seventh St., Los Angeles. Behalf S. KAJIWARA of 939 W. 7th St. Los Angeles, CA; during Oriental Works of Art rare and valuable Antiquities sales commencing on February 1924.
The E. B. Greppo family's collections can be found on Lot-104 through Lot-113, and Lot-150, 151, 154, 158, 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 170, 171, 305, 307, 308, and 314.
Condition
Excellent condition, with normal anomalies in nature, sign of stressed surface, minor scratch & dent. Surface traced wear and or declined to gilding. Normal, considering ages and wears.
