LUSTORIUS, 18th C. Chinese Qing Dynasty gilt bronze Bodhisattvas Buddha figure of Vajradhara. Peaceful in appearance, with an attractive face, with downcast eyes under delicately arched brows, with the face slightly smiling, his ears have been traditionally pierced and elongated. Beautifully adorned with a five-pointed crown of gold, each point is emblazoned with a buddha of the five families. With gold jewels, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets and a girdle, he wears an upper garment. Each end of jewelry ornament inlaid adorned with turquoise, lapis-lazuli stone. Serene face beneath the headdress, slightly gazed west. He holds the two hands folded across the heart in the mudra of non-duality. The right hand holds a vajra scepter and the left a vajra-handled bell. The lower body is attired in a skirt. Seated in vajra posture with the legs interlocked atop a moon disc and double lotus throne. Bronze is in beautiful condition with minimal marring of the surface. Resplendent quality due to extensive trace of gilt on surface and the underside revealed the separation of the Buddha and the throne. Surface wear to gilding and trace of lacquered overall, Light tarnish covers the surface while still giving off a soft glow as the light hits the exterior. Excellent detail and design perfectly executed by ancient craftsmen, extensive trace of gilt on surface. The underside with incised Quadra-petal flori-form visvavajra mark and centralized DaiJi.

Vajradhara, Buddha (Tibetan: dor je chang, sang gye. English: the Vajra Holder, Enlightened One). The primordial buddha, personification of the dharmakaya - truth body of enlightenment and progenitor of the Vajrayana system of Buddhism. Sanskrit: Vajradhara Tibetan: Dor je chang. The New (Sarma) Schools, from the 11th century onward, believe that Vajradhara is the secret, or inner, form of Shakyamuni Buddha and the combined essence of all the buddhas of the ten directions and three periods of time gathered as one. In Anuttarayoga Tantra it is Vajradhara who emanates forth the forms of the Five Symbolic Buddhas and Vajrasattva followed by the meditational deities such as Guhyasamaja, Shri Hevajra and Chakrasamvara. According to the Nyingma Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism Vajradhara is an activity emanation of buddha Samantabhadra.

Over all in EXCELLENT condition. With normal anomalies in nature, sign of stressed surface, minor scratch & dents. Surface traced wear and or declined to gilding. Normal, consider ages and wear.
