WYTHEVILLE, VIRGINIA PRESENTATION DRESS CANE, plain tapered cylindrical ebony shaft, gold-filled handle inscribed "Presented to Wm. D. Roedel / by the Boarders of / Wytheville Female College / June 1857", lacking ferrule. Circa 1857. 35 1/2" L.
Good overall condition with minor areas of wear.
Catalogue Note: William D. Roedel founded the Wytheville Female College in 1855 in Wytheville, Virginia. He graduated from Luther Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1848. He was also a Meteorological Observer through the 1860's until his death in 1865.
