Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Three hand-built and carefully modeled, petite sheep-face figures - all three nude with nubbin breasts and standing with attenuated limbs,each with a sheepface visage presenting a long face, a prominent nose, and two incised diamond-shaped eyes, topped by turban-style headdresses, and wearing large earspools on pointy ears. These diamond-shaped eyes are seen on the earliest variants of the so-called sheepface figures. Size: tallest measures 4.25" H (10.8 cm)
Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields and Riverbend Gallery
