The artist has provided a bird's eye view of this didactic scene in which a pair of lovers are being 'taught' about or 'introduced' to the pleasures of the flesh, the female in repose on a bed with her limbs spread, a red-robed teacher/attendant behind her, her male partner standing and clearly aroused by his beautiful partner with another teacher/attendant behind him - in the background, a window with a view of a bamboo garden - to the left an ornate side table with a gorgeous blue ceramic vessel holding a peacock feather and a red branch or piece of coral, and beyond a wash basin on a stand for cleansing - all hand drawn with ink and painted in watercolor. A wonderful example of erotic art rendered in a saucy yet tasteful manner. Set in a triple mat (gold, cornflower blue, and off-white linen) under glass in a gold-hued wooden frame.
